Alice in Wonderland director Tim Burton has denied reports that his new movie is "too dark".

Tim, 50, created the new adaptation of the movie, which stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, which is out next year.

Talking about claims that the film is too dark, he said: "To me, it’s for kids. But I’ve run into that problem before.

"I remember, like, on the Nightmare Before Christmas, it was like: ‘Oh… it’s too weird.’ And yet kids love it. Alice is one that’s always been, kind of, slightly subversive material.

"But we’re not doing anything racy or darker than the story."

Johnny Depp has admitted he has lost track of how many tattoos he has.

The actor made the confession as he revealed his latest mark – a dedication to his girlfriend and two children on his upper left arm.

Depp, who has two children, Lily-Rose and Jack with Vanessa Paradis, said: “I don’t know how many there are but yeah, they all mean something.

“My most recent tattoo was probably that [shows top of left arm]. That’s Vanessa, Lily-Rose and Jack.”

Depp, who is also a guitar player, spoke out about Michael Jackson’s death and revealed that his music inspired him.

He said: “Certainly, the Jackson 5 when I was a kid growing up and stuff, the Jackson 5 were a huge inspiration to me musically and he was such a gifted artist.

“It’s hard you know, these kiddies have lost a father, and parents have lost their child, and brothers and sisters have lost a brother, so it’s so awful, but I mean aside from that, there is this amazing legacy that he’s left behind and well, he’s one for the ages, isn’t he?”

?I?m not particularly optimistic about society. We?re in an age where everything has gone too far. It?s an ugly world. ?I?m truly frightened of America in terms of raising my daughter here. I don?t believe that is an option at all.?- Johnny Depp on raising his daughter in America. I think he has just said what many of the American parents would think of their society today. I know he is a huge celebrity and life is tough for them out there and the threats posed to his kids are different from the ones other kids would have to face. But on the face of it, we all have children who are young and restless, they want to explore the world but they cannot decide yet at a smaller age what is right and what is not good for them. What they see being presented to them in a hip format and attractive package they shall take to it like a bird to the sky when it knows what wonders a wing can do. I always stand up for all things American, I agree with Johnny when it comes to children. The bad thing is that I don?t know if children would be any better off raised anywhere else.
