Sex And The City fashionista Patricia Field has come out in support of John Galliano, praising the designer’s ‘beauty, intelligence and energy.’ The flame-haired costume designer — who is famed for dreaming up the quirky outfits Sarah Jessica Parker wore on the hit show — has blasted others in the fashion industry who have not rushed to the Brit’s defence. A friend of Galliano, she says his alleged anti-Semitic comments were all part of his ‘theatre’ and are ‘farce.’ In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Field says, “People in fashion all they do is go and see John Galliano theatre every season. “That’s what he gives them. “To me, this was the same except it wasn’t in a theatre or in a movie.” Field went on to tell the trade publication, “John lives in theatre. It’s theatre. It’s farce. “But people in fashion don’t recognise the farce in it. “All of a sudden they don’t know him. But it’s OK when it’s Mel Brooks’ The Producers [characters] singing Springtime For Hitler.” Field says the 50-year-old designer who was captured on camera making alleged anti-Semitic insults to diners in a Paris restaurant was “acting out a character.” Hours after Galliano was fired from the House of Dior, the New Yorker says she sent out a statement of support to 500 friends, blogs, and e-mails.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been celebrating the launch of Textile Elizabeth and James in New York. The twin sisters, 24, launched the new fashion label at Tacombi in NYC and their sister Elizabeth Olsen, who the label is named after, joined them for the launch. Speaking about the new line, Ashley said: “With the addition of Textile Elizabeth and James, the label offers a well-rounded collection of casual to dressy options for the trend conscious customer. The Textile Elizabeth and James line will be available to buy from this March from Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Intermix.

World number one tennis player Serena Williams scored a Fashion Week grand slam in London with a front row seat at the Burberry Prorsum show. The 28-year-old champion joined stylistas Sarah Jesscia Parker and Alexa Chung for the showing. Williams opted for a slinky, figure-hugging dress by the famed British label for the event, the Daily Express reports. Other famous faces taking in the 154-year-old brand’s newest collection included American Vogue editor Anna Wintor, famed fashion photographer Mario Testino, and 23-year-old Scottish tennis player Andy Murray.

Marc Jacobs has split from “husband” Lorenzo Martone – less than four months after they tied the knot.

The fashion designer wed Brazilian PR exec Martone in St. Barts, in the West Indies, on New Year’s Eve. But now sources say the couple has broken up.

A pal told the New York Post newspaper: “They’ve both been telling people that they broke up.”

Although Lorenzo has denied claims he has moved out of the New York apartment they share, he wasn’t with Jacobs at the wedding of his business partner Robert Duffy last week.

A spokesperson for Jacobs said: “We don’t comment on Marc’s personal life.”

Although the couple got married, they had yet to sign any official wedding documents, meaning the marriage wasn’t legal.

Lorenzo has said: “In the end, we just had an intimate ceremony at a friend’s house with people who were already on the island.

“Although the official wedding papers won’t be signed till later this year, so legally we’re not married yet.”

Alexander McQueen, whose sudden death plunged the fashion world into mourning, had the name of a secret lover tattooed on his arm.

McQueen, who it is believed committed suicide, was dropped by the man, an Australian, before his death, according to a report in the UK Daily Star.

McQueen, 40, who was reportedly found hanged in his Mayfair apartment, had earlier told the Australian edition of Harper’s Bazaar: “He was a bastard who went back to Australia and I was left looking at his name.”

The editor of the magazine, Edwina McCann, said pictures taken after McQueen’s men’s collection was unveiled in Milan did not reveal the man’s name and McQueen never identified him.

McQueen, pictured here with one of his biggest fans, Sarah Jessica Parker, was said to be reeling from the death of his mother Joyce, to whom he was exceptionally close, and who died just days before the suicide. The McQueen family buried Joyce in Hornchurch, Essex. Alexander’s brother Michael, 49, said: “We are grieving. It is just so raw. Everyone is too upset to say anything.”

A source close to dad Ronald added: “He is very emotional. The family want people to leave them in peace.”

McQueen was found hanged in his £2million flat in London’s Mayfair on Thursday.

Tributes have flooded in from around the world, with flowers left at his boutiques in London, New York and Los Angeles.

London Fashion Week will mark his death when it opens next Friday.

Fashion designer-turned-moviemaker Tom Ford had a lot of personal drama to draw from for the suicide scene in his acclaimed new film A Single Man, as it took place in his own family.

Colin Firth plans his suicide in the movie after losing his longtime partner, played by fellow Brit Matthew Goode, and Ford admits the tragedy of the movie seems authentic because he actually experienced a relative’s dreadful death.

He said: “The suicide in the story comes from my family. There was a suicide that really took place in my family. It was exactly that re-enacted in the film by Colin’s character with the suit and cufflinks laid out, and how he zipped himself into a sleeping bag because he didn’t want to make a mess.

“I remember very vividly that there were darkly comic moments because what are you gonna do when these things happen to you in your life.”

Former Gucci designer Tom Ford has said he has ‘struggled with depression’ throughout his life.

The 48-year-old admitted that he had a mid-life crisis when he reached the age of 40.

He said to Advocate: “I have always struggled throughout my life with depression. I’ve never made any of this public because… well… I’m not one to wear any of this on my sleeve.

“When someone would come into my office in the morning and ask me how I was I’d always go: ‘I’m great!’ But I wasn’t great.”

Fashion queen Donna Karan will celebrate her 51st birthday in Australia, according to reports.

The New York-based designer, creator of the DKNY label, will be honoured at a special party to be held at Sydney’s Astral Restaurant this Friday.

While she is down under, Karan will also support the Nomad Two Worlds art project – put together by her friend, New York-based Australian photographer, Russell James – which was inspired by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s apology to the “stolen generations” in 2008, and features Aboriginal artists.

It has already premiered in New York at an event hosted by Aussie actor Hugh Jackman.

Sienna, 27, was spotted approaching the hunk at a recent party to celebrate the start of New York Fashion Week.

A source said: “She arrived with two men and sat at a table right in front of the stage.

“In the middle of rocking out to the music that was playing, she eyed Josh and instantly leapt out of her seat to shower him with a public display of affection.”

Hartnett, 31, reportedly loved the attention, but friends of Sienna’s were allegedly less impressed by the public display of affection.

Actress Sienna Miller is reportedly set to move to New York.

The 27-year-old wants to concentrate on building a fashion business in the US, it is claimed.

A source said: “She is looking to buy a three-bed place.”

Miller was born in the Big Apple and said she has always felt attached to the city.

She said: “I think you always have an affinity for the place you’re born…To be on Broadway was an absolute dream, since I was little. I always wanted to do theatre.”
