Andy Warhol’s portrait of Michael Jackson is finally going up for sale. A similar portrait of the King of Pop was sold in early August to an anonymous bidder, but Christie’s auction house in New York City will be placing another portrait of the late singer by Warhol up for auction starting on November 10th. The 1984 silk-screened portrait is expected to sell for an impressive $500,000 to $700,000. I know that it’s MJ and I know that it’s Warhol but I don’t think that a portrait is worth that much. Have these people not heard of the recession too?

Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt has spent nearly $1m on a painting.

The actor paid $956,000 for the Neo Rauch oil painting Etappe, at Art Basel, an international art show for modern and contemporary works in Basel, Switzerland.

The nine-foot wide 1998 painting shows a swirling view of a driver behind a red racecar, with workers nearby carrying hoses.

He initially walked away from the purchase, as New York dealer David Zwirner was overheard saying: “He’s on the fence.” But within minutes, Pitt returned with Los Angeles collectors Eli and Edythe Broad and bought the piece.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is filthy rich and he has no problems showing off just how rich he is. The rocker Lars Ulrich recently purchased a Jean Michel-Basquiat painting at an auction in New York City for a cool $14 million, easily outdoing the $12 million it was estimated to go for. The art is called ?Untitled (Boxer)? from 1982 and depicts an abstracted black heavyweight fighting with arms outstretched against a white graffiti background. The painting was the center of a 2005 traveling retrospective of the artist?s work.

John Mayer was spotted as he returned to his apartment after shopping in New York City then spotted looking dapper as he went out for the Susan and Tony Bennett?s Exploring the Arts (ETA) gala recently. The non-profit organization supports arts education in public schools and was able to raise $1.2 million through the event. John was among several different performers including Jerry Seinfeld and Terrence Howard. Whoopi Goldberg hosted the event and Tony Bennett performed the closing number to bring the event to an end. The 30-year old John sang ?Waiting on the World to Change?, ?Daughters? and ?Find Another You?.
