Boardwalk Empire star’s catfight hits the courtroom
"I’m a real actress on HBO! She’s a fake actress publicity-seeker!" Prosecutors in court said that is what the Boardwalk Empire actress Paz de la Huerta told police about MTV reality-show star Samantha Swetra after she allegedly beat her up in front of punters at a trendy New York hotel bar last month. Standing before Judge Frank Nervo in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday, de la Huerta was charged with assault in the case. The New York City resident sat in silence throughout the reading of the charges that she had attacked Swetra – an ex-star of the MTV programme The City – at the Standard Hotel’s bar on March 20, 2011. On the night of the fight, de la Huerta, was allegedly drunk and stumbling around the bar with her breasts peeping out of her low-cut blouse, a witness told the media. At the same time Swetra was socialising in a bar nearby with troubled actress Lindsay Lohan. Swetra claims she had never met de la Huerta before that night and the fight. Prosecutors accused de la Huerta of pummelling Swetra in the face with her fists until her nose and mouth poured with blood. Other customers watched in terror as the TV star allegedly then threw her glass at Swetra, according to the criminal complaint. The shattered glass allegedly caused ‘cuts’ and ‘bleeding’ on Swetra’s leg, said authorities. De la Huerta declined to comment on Tuesday. She was charged with criminal possession of a weapon (the glass she flung) three counts of misdemeanor assault and harassment. If she is convicted, de la Huerta faces up to a year in jail.
