Real Housewives of New York City turn marriage equality march into firestorm
The Real Housewives of New York City donned wedding dresses for a march to help legalise gay marriage – but the peaceful demo erupted into a firestorm. Drama flared at the Brooklyn Bridge rally between blonde socialites Alex McCord and Sonja Morgan, who was slated to speak publicly. Alex claimed her husband Simon was also due to give a speech at the Marriage Equality New York rally and was livid when he wasn’t allowed on the podium. Sonja then invited the reality show’s cast members to a cocktail party at her townhouse to showcase her pal’s art. But her attempt to make up with Alex only ended up pouring fuel on the fire. "I just don’t ever want to have Simon in my ear again like that," she said. "He’s such a big guy and he was wearing that sparkly jacket and I was freaking out because I was about to make my speech and he was in my ear. That was horrible." Incredulous, Alex replied: "Actually what was horrible was you hijacking the entire event and making it about you rather than marriage equality. "This is something that Simon and I had both been involved in since July, we were on the committee. I know you were speaking as well as that’s awesome, that’s fantastic." As the two women faced off, Sonja interrupted: "You’re making no sense. "They called me and asked me to speak and I said that I would if they came to me outside of the group and wanted it to be me alone." Alex retorted: "He (Simon) was in your ear because you kicked it off the podium." As the drama escalated, Sonja ended up throwing Alex out of the party, declaring: "You have the worst manners. Out of my house!"
