Martin Scorsese donates $275,000 to BFI’s Hitchcock campaign
Filmmaker Martin Scorsese has donated $275,000 to the BFI’s campaign to Rescue the Hitchcock 9 through his Film Foundation. The initiative was set up to support the restoration of Alfred Hitchcock’s nine silent films and it was recently given its largest single donation. The Film Foundation supported the project by donating $275,000 in partnership with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Technical experts at the British Film Institute are now planning to restore the ‘scratched and damaged negatives’ to produce a much better viewing copy of the films for fans to enjoy. Scorsese said: “I’m thrilled that these films will be preserved and made available with the best possible prints for audiences to enjoy. “Hitchcock remains an enduring influence on world cinema, and these early works provide a wonderful glimpse into the development of his signature style.”
