Little Fockers star Robert De Niro is to head the jury of the Cannes Film Festival later this year. The veteran actor has been named as the jury president of the 64th Cannes Film Festival by organisers of the festival, who say his election as president is a way of paying tribute to him. In a statement, De Niro said: “As co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival and the Doha Tribeca Film Festival, I have an increased appreciation for the jury, who serve, undertaking an important role in choosing films that are represented in the world of film at its highest level.” He added: “These types of festivals help connect the international film community and have a lasting cultural impact.” The actor has attended the festival for eight of his films with Taxi Driver and The Mission both winning the Palme d’Or.
