Nicole Kidman is returning to Broadway – to play an ageing, man-eating movie star. The actress, who famously stripped naked in stage production The Blue Room in 1998, will star in Sweet Bird of Youth. The revival of the Tennessee Williams-written play will debut next autumn. It will be directed by David Cromer, according to a US report. In Sweet Bird, Kidman will play Alexandra Del Lago, a fading, sexually voracious screen actress who drinks heavily. A representative for Kidman, 43, was unavailable for comment. Hundreds lined up at the Cort Theatre in 1998 in a bid to get tickets when the actress appeared in the sell-out production of the David Hare play The Blue Room, in which she briefly appeared naked. She had recently split from then-husband Tom Cruise at the time. In 1962 Sweet Bird of Youth – written by Williams in 1959 – was made into a film starring Paul Newman and Geraldine Page in the Del Lago role. Kidman’s friend Scott Rudin, who produced The Hours, for which she won an Oscar, is producing Sweet Bird of Youth, the New York Post reports.
