Martin Scorsese sued for $600,000
Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese was sued for allegedly owing $600,000 in fees to jailed financier Kenneth Starr.
Starr was arrested by authorities in May for an alleged $59m Ponzi scheme which scammed New York socialites and celebrity clients, including Uma Thurman. The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court by a court-appointed receiver in charge of Starr’s business.
Court papers state that the Goodfellas director agreed to pay Starr five per cent of his income for “accounting, bookkeeping, tax and other personal management services”.
But Scorsese allegedly backed out of the deal after his account manager, Arnie Herrman, left Starr’s company and took the star’s business to another firm.
A representative for Scorsese told the New York Post that Scorsese’s production company “has paid substantial fees to his former business manager’s firm, and if it has been determined that there is anything still outstanding, it will be rectified”.
