Helen Mirren baffled by reaction to topless pics
Helen Mirren insists her topless photoshoot is no big deal, asking ‘What is wrong with people?’
The Oscar-winning actress stripped off for New York magazine to promote Love Ranch.
The photos, shot by Juergen Teller, show her relaxing naked in a bath, with her breasts exposed.
But Dame Helen, 64, says she is baffled by the controversial reaction to the pictures – and insists the images are “high-level art”.
She says in a new interview: “I mean, honestly, what is the matter with people?
“It’s ridiculous. It’s because I’m old. It’s only because I’m old. There is a weird query and fascination. I love photography and I love the art of photography.
“And the photographer for those photographs was actually a very high-level art photographer.”
The new movie, directed by her husband Taylor Hackford, is based on a true story about a couple who set up Mustang Ranch, the first legalised brothel in the US.
Speaking to the magazine, she said: “I’m still the good girl who wants to be a bad girl. But I’ll never make it as a bad girl. I’m not a prude or a moralist and I never have been, but I’m too fearful, too much of a wimp, really.”
