Amityville Horror house may haunt carnivores next
The Amityville Horror house could be a slaughterhouse once more – but this time to put off people eating meat.
Animal rights group PETA immediately stepped in as soon as it heard the famed horror house was up for sale in New York for $1.15 million.
The house in Amityville, New York, was the scene of an horrific slaying in 1974 when six members of the DeFeo family were shot dead as they slept – with the eldest son, Ronald DeFeo, later convicted of the murders.
After that the home was said to be haunted, and another family, the Lutzes, claim they were driven out after being terrorised by paranormal phenomena while living there, sparking a best-selling book and nine horror movies.
Now PETA hopes to lease the creepy home as a “slaughterhouse” to drive people screaming from meat.
“In our horror house, the sound of slaughterhouse blades whirring while animals scream for their lives would play over loudspeakers,” Tracy Reiman, its vice-president, wrote to the owners.
“Visitors would be able to see animatronic hens struggling for space inside tiny battery cages and lifelike ‘fish’ gasping for air as they slowly suffocate on the deck of a fishing boat.”
They would also have the opportunity to be “locked” in a small pig crate.
“The on-site Cruelty-Free Cafe would feature delicious vegan food, such as protein-packed mock chicken and faux ribs,” Reiman writes.
