Simon Cowell to get International Emmy for changing face of TV
Top-earning US television entertainer Simon Cowell, 50, will receive an International Emmy award in New York on November 22, US organisers said.
The BBC reports Cowell’s Emmy will recognise his work as a star television judge on such shows as American Idol, Britain’s Got Talent and The X-Factor.
Cowell, who is poised to take his X-Factor stateside, was once called a British man-bitch by rival producer giant Nigel Lythgoe.
Emmy organisers said Cowell has “reshaped 21st-century television and music around the world”.
Cowell, who recently became engaged to Mezhgan Hussainy, 36, said he was delighted. He added: “I’ve been very lucky to make the shows I love”.
International Academy president Bruce Paisner said: “Simon Cowell is an entrepreneur and performer in equal measure. He has built an international empire, and in so doing has changed the face of television around the world.”
Previous recipients of international Emmys have included talk show queen Oprah Winfrey and veteran interviewer Sir David Frost.
