David Letterman thanks prosecutors for nailing extortionist
US talk-show host David Letterman has praised authorities for prosecuting his blackmailer Robert Halderman, according to reports.
The comic spoke on his Tuesday night show about the extortion plot against him, just hours after CBS producer Halderman admitted the $2m plot in court.
“I need to talk to you about a segment of my life that began six months ago,” Letterman said from behind his Late Show desk.
“I found myself in some legal trouble, and pretty quickly, it was turned over to the District Attorney’s Office here in Manhattan.
“Now, I had never been involved in anything like this in my life and I was concerned and full of anxiety and nervous and worried.”
He added: “The people in the District Attorney’s Office said, ‘This will be handled professionally, this will be handled skilfully and appropriately’.
“Well, the matter was resolved today, and they were exactly right. It was handled professionally, skilfully and appropriately.”
