Alexa Ray Joel defends mum Christie Brinkley
Alexa Ray Joel has defended mum Christie Brinkley following the young singer’s alleged suicide attempt.
Alexa, whose father is Billy Joel, took to her Facebook page to slam reports that blamed supermodel Brinkley for her ending up in hospital in December.
The 24-year-old wrote: “My Mom & Dad are my role models and best friends. What I was struggling with had nothing to do with them. The press was particularly harsh on my mother, which is unthinkable to me, because she is the kindest woman I’ve ever known, and wouldn’t hurt a fly!!”
Singer-songwriter Alexa was admitted to hospital in New York on December 5 after experiencing breathing difficulties while taking homeopathic medication Traumeel. She reportedly took the medication in a bid to cope with a bout of severe depression after splitting from her boyfriend.
It was claimed she had tried to “kill herself” following a series of bitter arguments with her mum while they were on holiday. In a joint statement, Billy Joel and Christie previously declared those reports to be “false”.
