Abigail Breslin to play Helen Keller on Broadway
Abigail Breslin, the child star of Little Miss Sunshine, will play Helen Keller in a Broadway revival of The Miracle Worker.
Producers of the show said Breslin, 13, was set to bring back the much loved Keller (1880-1968), who won the admiration of millions around the world for her triumph over blindness with the help of a teacher, Annie Sullivan.
Alison Pill, 23, will play Sullivan. The role will be the first time Breslin, who appeared in Raising Helen and Zombieland, has starred on stage. She was nominated for a best supporting actress Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine.
The performance will also mark the 50th anniversary of the play’s opening on Broadway, when it starred Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft, who had played their characters on-screen in the 1962 film version of the story. Both won Oscars for their performance.
