David Lettermans ex-lover: Diary reveals she cheated on boyfriend with Late Show host
The woman at the centre of the David Letterman scandal, Stephanie Birkitt, reportedly wrote in her diary that she continued having sex with her Late Show boss – even after moving in with her TV producer boyfriend, Robert “Joe” Halderman.
CBS producer Halderman is accused of trying to extort $2m from talk show giant Letterman over his alleged affair with Birkitt.
Birkitt and Letterman reportedly took romantic hikes together last autumn at the star’s ranch in Montana, while Halderman stayed at home in Connecticut, an insider told the New York Post.
Birkitt, 34, told Halderman that she and 62-year-old Letterman had a “platonic relationship”, the insider added.
Letterman and Birkitt were reportedly so close, that once a week Letterman would drive her back to the home she shared with Halderman.
“I’m his best friend,” Birkitt is alleged to have told a concerned Halderman, the insider claims.
Letterman is said to have even offered Birkitt a job as his personal lawyer, when she graduated from law school in June 2008.
Birkitt later tried to use Letterman’s generous offer to try to persuade Halderman to start a family with her and become a stay-at-home dad, the New York Post reports.
According to reports, Halderman was furious when he read Birkitt’s diary last December and discovered that she was still having an affair with Letterman.
