Ukrainian woman begs Sir Elton John to keep away from Lev
On the heels of a second parenting let-down for Sir Elton John, the Ukrainian mother of the boy who initially stole his heart has pleaded with the superstar not to try to adopt her son, Lev.
Known as “Marina”, the woman said that she wanted a chance to get her life back together so she could get Lev out of his orphanage.
“I love him so much and desperately want him back so I can hold him,” she said from Mariupol, eastern Ukraine.
The heartfelt plea came as Sir Elton dropped a possible bid for a Malawian boy who caught his and partner David Furnish’s eye. Furnish said the boy was found to have several living blood relatives so that the couple did not want to wrench him from his homeland.
Marina, meanwhile, is described as an alcoholic whose two children were taken from her by social workers.
“I know Elton fell in love with my Lev. I saw him holding him and kissing him on TV and in the newspapers. I understand Elton’s feelings. Lev is a very funny and cheerful boy. It’s impossible not to love him. But I’m going to overcome my problems. I so much want my babies back.”
Ukrainian authorities initially scotched the bid for Lev on the grounds that Sir Elton was too old and that the couple was homosexual.
