Sir Paul McCartney must be one of the few very famous celebrities yet to make it into the hot seat on Letterman.

But the ex-Beatle has announced he will make his first appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman to finally sit down with “Dave”.

He is expected to suffer Letterman’s signature lameness on a show to air on Wednesday July 15. The CBS network has even honoured the occasion with a statement.

“The legendary musician, who, as part of The Beatles, made his U.S. television debut at the Ed Sullivan Theater on The Ed Sullivan Show 45 years ago, returns to that very stage to sit down for an interview with Letterman. McCartney will also perform later in the broadcast,” CBS said.

The appearance will be timed with a series of performances Sir Paul has scheduled in major US cities, kicking off in New York at CitiField on July 17.
