Denzel Washington: Working with John Travolta was like having phone sex
Denzel Washington says working with John Travolta on their new film was “like having phone sex”.
Washington stars in The Taking Of Pelham 123 as a dispatcher on the New York subway who is forced to call gun-toting Travolta while he radios in his demands.
Washington joked to David Letterman: “It was like phone sex. The first three weeks of filming I was on camera and John was in his trailer. They ran a microphone to the trailer and I only heard him over the speakers. The second three weeks he was on camera and I was in the trailer.”
Washington said that despite not being in the same room, the two actors developed an intimate relationship.
“You really do develop a relationship,” he said. “You have five senses and you’re just not using sight – we spoke to each other in the morning then we’d talk and tell jokes, we sang songs – we did some Broadway songs together.”
