Milk star James Franco has signed up to star in a new indie film called In Praise of Shadows.
The film will be directed by Jay Anania, and it will start shooting in New York City on June 15.
Anania heads up the directing program at the film school in NYU where Franco has recently completed his first year.
The film sees Franco play the role of William Vincent, and the flick follows his journey to New York after being exiled four years earlier.
He returns to the city to rescue the woman he loves from a crime syndicate.
The flick is being produced on a budget of less than $10 million and will be produced through Franco’s Rabbit Bandini company.
Talking about Franco, Anania said: “I was immediately struck by his inventiveness and talent.”
