Sean Penn, Meryl Streep lead list of SAG winners

Are Meryl Streep and Sean Penn closer to winning the much-coveted Oscar’s? Streep and Penn led the list of awardees during the recent Screen Actors Guild or SAG Awards. Streep won Best Actress for Doubt while Penn won Best Actor for Milk. The other winners are Heath Ledger, Best Supporting Actor for DarkKnight, Kate Winslet, Best Supporting Actress for The Reader and Slumdog Millionaire for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The SAG Awards is said to be the crystal ball of the Oscars which means its winners can very well reflect the winners of the Oscar’s Awards come February 8.
Two-time Oscar winner Streep has won for her portrayal of a nun in the movie Doubt while Penn won for her portrayal of a political gay rights activities. Penn however refused to call his role as gay or straight saying that as actors they play human beings. Slumdog Millionaire has been getting awards left and right from the different award-giving bodies so a lot of people are expecting a big win for the film during the Oscar’s. Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of a poor boy who rises from Mumbai poverty to becoming the champion of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”, Mumbai’s version of the popular show. Slumdog has 10 Oscar nominations. The films nominated in the SAG for cast best performance are also nominated as Oscar best pictures including Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Frost/Nixon.
