After the rain comes the sunshine and this is especially true for Jennifer Hudson who was recently hit by the tragic murders of close family members including her mother, nephew and brother. She is not yet over from grieving but four Grammy nominations is enough reason to still be grateful.

Hudson was nominated for best female R&B vocal performance for “Spotlight”, best R&B song for “Spotlight” again, best R&B performance by a duo or group for “I’m His Only Woman” which she did with Fantasia and best R&B album for her self-tiled debut title album. The 27-year old singer said releasing an album is already a blessing since it is her childhood dream but getting four Grammy nominations for it is humbling

The American Idol finalist’s rise to fame is phenomenal considering she did not even win the title. Doors were however opened for her when she got a role in the 2006 Broadway musical “Dreamgirls” where she played the role of Effie Melody White, a role closely identified with Jennifer Holiday who is a Tony Award winner. Hudson won several awards from several bodies including the Golden Globe, the Phoenix Film Critics Society, the New York Film Critics, the National Board of Review and from the very prestigious Oscar’s Award.

Call it fate but the announcement for the Grammy Awards was made on the same day the court ordered the imprisonment without bail of her brother-on-law William Balfour who was the main suspect in the brutal murder of her family. One of the reasons being eyed for the murder is jealousy based on reports that Balfour had warned Hudson’s sister that it would be her family who will suffer if she went out with other men.
